Nitin Patel is a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon based at the Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital. He graduated from medical school in 1987 and completed specialist Neurosurgical training in 1999 at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. He subsequently undertook a Neurosurgical fellowship in Melbourne, Australia before returning to Frenchay as Consultant in 2000.
Nitin's specialist interests are in spinal surgery. He has over 12 years experience in the surgical and non-surgical management of a wide range of routine and complex spinal conditions including lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, and cervical spine degeneration. He performs over 300 spinal operations annually, ranging from minimally invasive procedures for typically common lumbar and cervical spine disc conditions to advanced procedures for spinal trauma and tumours.
At Frenchay Hospital, he is the clinical lead for spinal surgery in the department of Neurosurgery and the Training Programme Director for the South West covering the Bristol and Plymouth Neurosurgical units. He is also Chairman of the Specialist Training Committee for the South West Neurosurgical training programme. He has a keen interest in teaching and has been involved as a faculty member on spine teaching courses both nationally and internationally.
